Yin Yoga is a complimentary yoga practice to the more dynamic and invigorating yang yoga styles. In this practice, floor postures are held passively for several minutes in order to access a safe and positive “stress” on the deep connective tissue- the tendons, fascia and ligaments. Physically, Yin Yoga restores and maintains natural mobility of the joints and energetically it opens the body’s meridian system which helps to support emotional equilibrium. This practice emphasizes stillness and silence, encouraging a more contemplative, non-reactive quality of mind. Utilizing breath with mindfulness, it will encourage the body and mind to connect with equanimity, evenness and balance, in this meditative practice.
